When Your Car Needs Repairs
Do Not Ignore the Need for Car
Repairs
Introduction:
Some car maintenance tasks are
easy to plan out such as knowing when to change the
oil and oil filter based on the elapse mileage from
the last change. When it comes to knowing when to
perform other maintenance tasks there is no easy
mileage answer. In many cases these indications of
when your can needs repairs should not be ignored
if you want to operate your car safely.
Unlike checking your cars oil,
which can be checked with a simple dipstick,
assessing your car's brakes isn’t that much more
difficult. However, to look at the brakes on some
cars the tire must be removed so you see the brake
mechanisms. Once the tires are off you can assess
the condition of your brake pads and calipers. On
most modern cars, the tire does not have to be
removed to determine the condition of the brakes.
The brake mechanism can be seen by looking at the
inside of the wheel.
The brakes should be checked
often to insure that the brake pads are still
serviceable. The brakes are one of the most
important safety features on your car. Checking
them should never be ignored or put off.
Brakes that grab when applied,
even lightly, is an indication that there is a
problem.
In addition, brake pedals that go all the
way to the floor without making any impact on your
car’s stopping ability are dangerous and need of
repair. The problem could be something as easy to
fix as low oil level in the master cylinder new
brakes pads may be required.
Other brake problems that can
occur include brakes that vibrate when applied,
which can indicate that something is wrong with the
master cylinder or warped rotors. The most obvious
indicator that your brakes are not working
correctly can be heard for blocks away as a high
pitch squeal that your car makes when the brakes
are applied. This noise is caused by the metal ware
indicator device on the brake pads that comes in
contact with the rotors when the brake padding is
worn below safe limits.
Squealing brakes are a warning
signs that you need to have your brake pads
replaced immediately. IF you delay the brake rotors
will become damaged which will increase the repair
cost many folds. These indications of when your car
needs repairs should not be ignored if you intend
to operate a safe car.
