What You Should
Know About Epoxy
Adhesive
Epoxy adhesive is
defined as a
durable glue type
adhesive possessing
extraordinary
strong bonding
properties. This
cementing agent is
more effective than
the paste style
adhesives. It is
not only known for
its bonding powers,
but is also admired
due to its ability
of creating a
strong layer of
protection. The
most fascinating
feature of epoxy,
however, is that it
can be used on a
wide variety of
materials, which
include woods,
plastics and
metals.
There are several
different
applications of
epoxy. One of the
most common uses is
in the construction
and repair of
wooden structures.
The glue is not
only instrumental
in securing
different pieces of
a wood together,
but can also give
it a perfect
finish. Epoxy is
one of the most
important
ingredients of the
finishing varnish
applied on wooden
structures. The
varnish containing
this specially
formulated adhesive
when applied to a
wooden body acts as
a strong protective
layer, which not
only enhances the
appearance of the
item, but also
increases its
durability.
You can use epoxy
glue for mending
cracked or broken
fiber optics. When
used for repairing
fiber wiring, the
glue other than
binding the wiring
also forms a strong
seal on its polymer
casing.
This bonding agent
is not only useful
for professionals,
it can be used by
the DIY homeowner
for a number of
repair jobs in the
home. However, the
epoxies meant for
household use are
different from
those meant for
professional or
industrial use.
Usually, the
adhesive marketed
for professional or
industrial
applications offer
stronger bond than
those meant for
household uses.
The most common
household
applications of
epoxy is repairing
joints of any
antique wood
product, mending
wobbly table legs
and repairing
broken furniture of
different types of
material. If you
are buying the glue
for home
application, you
should always opt
for premixed epoxy,
which is usually
available in small
tubes. Never allow
an opened tube of
this adhesive to
come in contact
with air as it will
solidify as soon as
it comes in contact
with air.
