A Tool Kit for a DIY Plumber
A Plumbers Tool Kit
Overview:
DIY homeowners often have to do
plumbing tasks but invariably they find that they
don’t have the right plumbing tools to do the job.
This can be remedied by building a tool kit for the
DIY plumber. There really aren’t a great many tools
involved required for an adequate plumbing tool
kit. By having the right tools available in your
tool kit you can be a much more effective DIY
plumber.
1.
Pipe cutter: A plumbing kit must contain tools that
can be used to cut metal and plastic pipe. Although
a hacksaw is a good beginning there are other pipe
cutting tools that are more effective to cut
plastic and copper tubing.
2.
Clamps or vise to hold things: A clamp or vise is
often essential to hold a piece of pipe still when
it needs to be cut. A vise is less important when
cutting through copper tubing but it is a big asset
when cutting black pipe. Holding the object
stationary helps you make a square cut.
3.
Adjustable pliers and wrenches: Adjustable pliers
and wrench are frequently required for plumbing
work. Pliers and wrenches are used to tighten or
loosen nut and bolts and fittings on plumbing
pipes.
4.
Hacksaw: A hacksaw is an absolute necessity. It is
the best tool for removing old plumbing pipes and
equipment. A hacksaw also can be used for cutting
through plastic or metal pipes.
5.
Pipe reamer: A pipe reamer is needed to remove the
internal burrs from pipes or tubing that result
from cutting. Reamers are available in a wide
selection of diameters, and are adjustable so that
they can be used on pipes of various sizes.
6.
Plunger: Every home should have a plunger in the
immediate area of every bathroom in the house. A
plunger is used to clear toilet and drains that
have been clogged by natural materials and toilet
paper.
7.
Snake auger: A snake auger is used when foreign
objects are flushed down the toilet and become an
obstruction in the plumbing. An auger grasps on to
an object so that it can be remove.
8.
Tubing Cutter: A tube cutter is used to cut copper
and plastic tubing.
9.
Soldier kit: A soldering kit that consists of a
soldering torch, solder and soldering paste is
essential for repair and replacing copper tubing
and pipe.
Some of the tools in the tool kit for a DIY plumber
can be used for doing work other than plumbing.
Having them available will shorting the time
required to do routine tasks around the house.
