Woman DIY Homeowners
DIY
Home Remodeling is Not for Men Only
Introduction:
If you have watched the
Home and Garden channel lately you can’t miss that
women have become increasingly DIY homeowners.
Women are picking up the carpenters belt and
tackling home improvement projects on their own,
and why not. Woman have always been a major part of
the workforce in all respects, although they have
not been given the credit due them.
Woman DIY homeowners have made
a big entrance into the DIY home improvement and
remodeling market as single homeowners and as
employees of home improvement companies.
In some
cases, it’s out of pure necessity as either they
live by themselves or don’t have the funds to hire
a contractor. Like men, in many cases many women
simply enjoy creating and building things on their
own.
Getting down and dirty with the tools and
environment of construction and remodeling is not a
realm reserved for men only.
As an old fashion New
Englander, I witnessed my mother and my wife
perform those untraditional women tasks for many
years. I worked side by side with my mother,
sisters and wife on home remodeling and
construction projects for decades. There never was
a project that was out of bounds.
My wife has helped me remodel
many homes that we have live in and helped build
four homes from the ground up. This included such
tasks as framing, insulating, electric and
plumbing, installing drywall, installing doors and
windows, interior trim work, wallpapering and
painting. In addition, she is an avid yard worker
keeping up shrubs and flower gardens.
Many men and woman don’t dare
tackle a home remodeling project on their own
because they are unsure of how to do a particular
project or afraid they’ll make a mistake. They
don’t realize that there is an unlimited amount of
information available on nearly any DIY home
improvement task. The information can be found
either on the internet or at any home improvement
supply store such as Lowe’s or Home Depot. Most
home improvement supply stores have videos
available that can be borrowed that illustrate how
to do just about any home improvement task whether
it’s installing a ceramic tile floor or building a
deck.
DIY homeowners can save a
great deal of money by doing home improvement tasks
themselves and they can be performed just as easily
by women as men. There are some circumstances
whereby women may need the assistance of a strong
back or an extra set of hands to assist them just
as men often do. In the end, the DIY women worker
does a better quality job than the typical
contractor.
Woman
should not be intimidated about grabbing a tool bag
and tackling a home improvement or repair project.
With the right can-do-attitude, there is little in
the world of DIY improvement that a women cannot do
