Winter Vacation
Travel Planning
Introduction:
Where
the winters are long and cold as in the northern areas of
the United States a winter vacation is a welcome idea.
Getting away from the harsh winter weather for a while is a
great and refreshing experience. The difficult question is
choosing where to take your winter vacation. Do you want to
vacation in a winter location or a warmer location where
there is plenty of warm sunshine.
Winter vacation ideas seem endless but most of us
usually choose a warm spot for out winter getaway. Using the
Mississippi River as a reference point, it seems that those
people who live west of it take their winter vacations in
the southwest (including Mexico) or in the Hawaiian Islands.
For those people who live east of the great river they
usually take their winter vacations in the south east,
Caribbean Islands, or Mexico.
Whatever your vacation ideas, whether for warm sun or
more winter snow you must do some travel planning for a
successful vacation.
The
first big question is what is going to be your mode of
transportation, do you intend to fly to your vacation
getaway or is it possible to drive. Of course if you drive
you will save a lot in transportation costs. The second big
question is, is this going to be a family vacation. Although
there are many family travel plans, they all tend to be
expensive. The most common restraints that people are faced
with is time and money, both will be factors in choosing a
vacation destination and the mode of transportation.
If you
plan well in advance, you’ll have more creative
opportunities to save money without compromising on having
the full vacation experience that you crave. For instance,
sometimes flights from airline hub cities are cheaper than
other airports and it may be worth driving a little out of
your way to depart from a different airport to reduce your
costs. You’ll need to factor in the cost savings along with
the expenses of driving and parking your car at the airport
to ensure that the extra effort is worthwhile.
Most airline
hub spot airport hotels offer great parking plans as long as
you spend either a night going or returning at the hotel.
Usually the money you save from avoiding the regular airport
parking will exceed the cost of the hotel for one night and
hotel parking fee. These plans are usually called “park and
fly”.
There
are have plenty of other opportunities to save money
including choosing the airline or the hotel were you want to
stay. If you don’t want to sweat out every little detail
while on vacation a vacation package at an all-inclusive
resort may be just what you want. Compare and check out the
prices between the different vacation resorts offered by the
airlines or ravel agencies. For the most part you can find
all the information that you need online; there are plenty
of websites competing to offer you the best deal. I think
the best approach is to do your homework online and then
check with a travel agency for a better offer. Frequently
they have deals that are not offered on line.
If you
travel regularly to the same location for your winter
vacation, renting a time share may be a good idea. Don’t buy
it, just rent it. Many time shares rent out units in the
same way as hotels except you can often get them at a very
good rate. For
a fixed amount you can have a perfect getaway spot that you
visit each year. There are many time share rentals
opportunities in Florida, Las Vegas, Mexico, and other
winter vacations spots that you can find online. They are
either offered by the owner or by a time share management
group. Dealing with the owner is usually your best bet.
Have a
great winter vacation, you deserve it.
