In most locations the best
weather for exterior painting falls in a very
narrow window. This narrow window is limited to
about one third of the year for optimum conditions
based on temperature, humidity, rain and a few
other factors.
Because of the extreme heat,
July and August is the least ideal time to paint in
most locations. Even making it more difficult, the
days when the weather is agreeable are often spread
out, meaning that it could take several days or
weeks to paint a house.
In most locations the most
ideal period is in the fall of the year when the
temperature is milder and the humidity is low. In
addition, during the fall season it is not uncommon
to have several days in a row where the weather is
agreeable for painting.
When the weather does become
agreeable it helps if there are more than one set
of hands doing the painting. Three people can paint
the average size house in two to three days where
it can take a week to do the same job if you are
doing alone. In addition, if you choose to spray
paint your house rather than brush painting it, the
task will go much faster with an additional set of
hands to mask off areas and lay tarps down to
protect shrubs not to mention moving ladders and
staging.
Keep in mind that most
exterior paints work best between 55 and 90
degrees. Given the sun track, painting the west
side of the house in the morning may be better than
the afternoon. The other sides of the house can be
painted at anytime.
