Certain kinds of paint
rollers, paint brushes and other paint applicators
go better with specific kinds of paint. Choosing
the right painting tools will help provide an
easier painting process and a better overall
finished paint job.
What is the best paint roller
for semi gloss paint?
Semi-gloss paint is relatively
high-sheen paint. Semi-gloss or full gloss paint is
has more shine than satin paints. Gloss and
eggshell paints are relatively easy to clean, and
some types can stand up to a good serious
scrubbing. However, as they have a relatively high
sheen, semi-gloss paints tend to show off dirt or
irregularities and accentuate flaws and spackle
repairs on a wall.
Foam paint rollers are
tempting for use with semi gloss paints because
they are relatively cheap, and disposable. Foam
paint rollers absorb a lot of lighter paints and
help them to be applied evenly to a wide, smooth
surface such as walls. However, they do release a
lot of paint that drips when pressure is applied to
the roller and tend to leave lines of paint at the
edges of the roller marks. A foam paint roller is
not the best paint roller for semi gloss paint.
The best roller for semi gloss
paint is a narrow synthetic or lamb’s wool roller.
The roller does not have to be too thick either to
apply a semi-gloss paint.
In addition to a good lamb’s
wool roller, it will even work better if the wall
is smooth, clean and is dust free. When using any
roller you should use a type of “V” or “W” pattern
to create an even application of paint.
Do not skimp on roller cost by
buying the cheapest paint roller on the market.
Often the less expensive ones will deposit pieces
of roller material on the wall given a fuzzy
appearance. Spend a little more money to avoid a
lot of aggravation.
