The newest thing in no VOC
(volatile organic compound) paints is an additive
material known as Micro ban. Micro ban is a
non-chemical, non-metallic, anti-mildew and
anti-bacterial component of the new VOC paints.
That is how new no VOC paints prevents mold and
bacteria.
Mildew, mold and bacteria are
single-celled organisms that can’t form on the new
no-VOC paints. These VOC paints include; primers,
indoor finish paints, ceiling white paints, ceramic
kitchen and tub enamels.
What you should know and why
you should use low or no VOC paints:
Paint is comprised of color
pigment, a binder that makes the paint stick to the
wall and a solvent, which keeps the paint liquid
until it comes in contact with the air. Volatile
organic compounds are generally contained in the
solvent portion of paint.
The fumes that are emitted by
volatile organic compounds can cause eye and skin
irritation. In addition, they can trigger asthma
attacks and headaches and may be linked to cancers
and damage to the liver and kidneys after prolong
exposure.
There are many different paint
manufacturers. There is very little difference
between their paints. DIY homeowners tend to get
into trouble when they believe all the claims about
paint products that are usually over-stated.
For example, a lot of paint
suppliers promote paint products that they claim is
a one coat hides all paint. There is really no such
thing. Sometimes one coat paints work if the
situation is just right such as the color or the
condition of a previously painted wall. If a paint
supplier tells you that their paint goes on
smoother than other suppliers, it probably isn’t
true because there are very little differences in
any paint that is of the same quality.
There really is no need to pay
a few dollars more for a gallon of paint from big
name suppliers when you can essentially get the
same paint from other suppliers such as Home Depot
or Lowe’s for a much better price.
