Essential Tools to Make Your Painting Easier
Make Painting Easier With the Right Tools
Introduction:
Most homeowners really don’t
like to paint. House painting can be a daunting task when considering
the preparation and clean up time not to mention the time it takes to
apply the paint. The task can be easier if you have the essential tool
to make the painting easier.
Here are the essential tools to ease the burden of painting.
These tools will speed up your work.
Multipurpose tool:
Don't start
your work without this tool. The multipurpose tool or 6 tools in 1
includes a scraper, spreader, hammer, knife, nail-puller and roller
cleaner. The roller cleaner is the big semi-circle in the middle of the
blade. Don't get the 5 in 1 multipurpose tool as it doesn't have a metal
butt for pounding in nails. This tool cost approximately $9 at most DIY
home improvement centers.
An adult 18 inch paint roller and pan:
It's twice the size of the standard 9 inch roller.
This means that you can roll out a wall in half the time.
The thicker the nap the more
likely it will get into the little pockets on textured walls and thus
enable you to paint your wall with one coat. A thicker nap will also
hold more paint so you won't have to load your roller as often. Cost of
an 18 inch roller is approximately $12.
Mini roller pail:
Don't get the pint-sized pail, get the gallon sized
pail as it will have a built-in paint grid for loading paint on to your
jumbo mini-roller. This will save you half the trips up and down the
ladder because you won't have to make separate trips with your brush and
your mini-roller.
Good paint brushes:
Splurge a little and get a high quality brush that
you will be able to use for just about everything for years to come. A
good brush holds more paint, has fewer stray bristles, and cuts a
straighter line. A good three inch Purdy brush will cost approximately
$15 and is well worth the price.
Two to four foot extension polls:
A broom handle will work fine for most paint
rollers until you get into tight spots like hallways and closets. To
avoid switching between poles purchase a telescopic poll. They cost
about $18
Telescoping multi-ladder:
This could be the last ladder you will ever buy.
It's rugged as can be and provides a 9 foot step ladder and lays out
flat for a 22 foot extension ladder. It folds up for storage to about
the size of a 5 foot step ladder. The cost is approximately $125 but the
cost is well worth it.
Step ladder two to three feet:
It will ease the strain on your neck while cutting
edges at the top of your wall.
They cost approximately $20.
Drop cloths:
If you are painting ceilings you will need a larger
12 x15 foot drop cloth. If you are just painting walls then a 4 x16 foot
runner will do. The better quality drop cloths are rubber coated on one
side to prevent the paint from soaking through and getting on the floor
or carpets. A good quality drop cloth will cost approximately $20 to $30
each.
Masking tape:
Apply to edges around trim and baseboards. Use blue
painters tape for best results and ease of removing. A good masking tape
cost approximately $6 a roll.
When you’re painting task is complete and the tools
have been put away, there's just one final task. Relax while you're
waiting for the paint to dry.
