There are two types of material that is used in constructing dog houses. The two materials are wood and plastic. When choosing which of these to use for your dog house there are several things to consider.

The best wood to use is cedar because it is extremely long lasting, pest and rot resistant, and requires very little maintenance. Pine and oak are two alternative wood used in constructing pet homes.

The size of the dog.
Will the dog house be located outside or inside?
The local temperature.
Are you going to build it yourself or purchase it?

You can buy one at any pet store.
They are great for inside dogs.
Some are designed as shipping containers.
They can be used as travel crates when you are traveling on vacation.
Plastic dog houses are more portable than wooden ones.
They are easier to clean, just hose them out and let dry.

Most pet owners agree that having a dog house for their pet is a necessity. The big question becomes, what material to use in my dog house construction. A lot depends on the type of dog you have; is it inside or outside and what is the weather like in your area. Your choice of wood or plastic will depend on how you answer those questions. But, no matter what you decide, make sure that you provide the dog a safe, secure and comfortable home.
