Cutting Concrete
Cutting Concrete Floors and
Foundation Walls
Introduction:
So you want to add an addition
that includes expanding the basement or you need to
remove a section of the basement floor for
installation of a pump-up toilet tank. No matter
what your project, concrete should not be a show
stopper. Homeowners who want to build additions to
their home that include expanding a basement or
cellars often find that they need to cut out a
section of the existing concrete foundation to add
an entry or passageway between the new and existing
basement or window.
Often homeowners are
discouraged with additions that involve removing a
section of concrete. They shouldn’t be as removing
a section of a concrete foundation wall or flooring
is quite easy and can be done by the DIY homeowner.
Cutting
concrete, or concrete saw cutting, is a process of
controlled sawing using a concrete cutting diamond
impregnated blade. You do not have to be a skilled
concrete cutter to operator these special saws.
Most tool rental companies rent wall and floor
concrete cutting saws. These saws are special saws
and they are quite easy to operate.
Modern concrete cutting leaves
a smooth finish and because they use water they
create very little dust or mess to clean up. The
saw is similar to a chain saw but rather than a
chain blade it has a large diameter blade specially
made for cutting concrete. The blades come in
different diameters up to thirty inches for cutting
through foundation walls.
There are many professional
concrete sawing companies that perform these
services at a very reasonable cost. In most cases
when a tool rental company rents a concrete cutting
saw the renter must buy the blade to do the job.
This is because the saw will be destroyed in the
cutting process. The diamond surface will be eroded
by the abrasive action and friction caused by the
cutting process. A thirty inch diamond concrete
cutting blade can cost as much as a $150. Even if
you have a professional company to do the task his
price will include the cost of a blade.
Don’t let a little concrete
stand in your way of a home remodeling project that
includes removing cutting the concrete. Cutting
concrete is a very common requirement for many home
remodeling projects.
