How to Repair Kitchen Drawers
A DIY Repair Project
Introduction:
If your kitchen drawers are
giving you trouble, there are several things you
can do to repair them. If your kitchen drawer pulls
or handles are loose, the drawer falls off the
track, hard to open, or difficult to slide, you can
make repairs yourself rather than hiring a
carpenter to make the repairs.
Repairing drawer pulls:
If your drawer pulls will not
tighten with a screwdriver, you may need to replace
the screws or the drawer pull itself.
When the putty is
dry, drill a pilot hole in the putty. Use a drill
bit that is the same size as the screw. This should
make the area tight and provide a solid base for
the drawer pull.
How to repair drawers that
have fallen off their track:
-
Remove the drawer
and set it aside.
-
Look at the drawer
tracks. Many metal tracks often get bent or
misshaped. There is an easy way to repair these.
Take a small piece of wood and place it behind the
track. Use screws to hold it in place. This should
straighten out the track and eliminate the problem.
Reinstall the
drawer.
A sticky drawer:
-
A sticky drawer can
be repaired simply by lubricating the track with
regular SOAP. Apply the soap to the track and slide
the drawer in and out several times.
-
If this does not fix
the sticky drawer it may need some light sanding of
the track.
