Precautions When Using a Pressure Washer
Introduction:
A
pressure washer is a great tool to have around the
house. It is nearly essential if your house has
vinyl siding as it needs to be cleaned once a year.
There are some safety precautions that you should
take when using a pressure washer. If used
improperly, you could damage the surface being
pressure washed, the pressure washer itself, or
even yourself.
Here are some pressure washer
safety tips that will avoid damaging the unit or
cause injuries:
·
Perform a check of
all of the components that might wear out over
time. For a gas powered pressure washer, make sure
the pump is not leaking and there are no visible
signs of any potential problem. If you have an
electric pressure washer, gain access to the inside
of the unit and check the pump the same way. Also
check the electrical connections as well. Be sure
to inspect the electrical power cord for any signs
of damage.
·
Check the water
hoses as they wear out over time, especially if the
unit is being used on a consistent basis. Inspect
the hose because it is under a great deal of
pressure and can cause very serious injuries if it
fails. Insure all of your hose connections are
secure and firmly tightened.
·
Check the nozzle to
make sure the spray pattern is even and consistent
and there is no evidence of clogging or debris
inside the nozzle.
Never look directly into the nozzle while
the unit is running. If you must look at it turn
the unit off to avoid directly spraying yourself in
the face.
·
Use protective
clothing, along with ear and eye protection. You
should use safety goggles, waterproof boots,
earmuffs, long pants and gloves. This will protect
you from high pressure water and particles that may
fly in your direction.
·
Insure that the unit
is clean before it is stored. Run water through it
until it comes out clean. This is especially
important if you were using cleaning agents with
the unit.
These are just some of the
pressure washer safety tips and precautions to
consider when you are operating a pressure washer.
These safety tips will keep you safe and ensure
that you don't damage any property.
