Ceiling medallions really
dress up any room when installed under a light
fixture or ceiling fan. The typical ceiling fan or
light fixture has a six inch base that attaches to
the ceiling support box. Ceiling medallions come in
several different sizes from six inches to two feet
in diameter. The medallions are installed on the
ceiling underneath the ceiling fixture base and
give the appearance of an old fashion finished
ceiling.
Chandeliers really take on a
different look when mounted with a ceiling
medallion.
They are lightweight, easy to install, and
look exactly like traditional plaster medallions.
Ceiling medallions are
installed in the center of the living room ceiling
or over the table in the dining room. They can also
be used in other areas such as hallways and near
entry doors.
Installing
a ceiling medallion is quite easy for the DIY
homeowner using common household tools. Follow the
four steps below and you will have a beautifully
finished ceiling with the medallion design of your
choice.

-
Install the
medallion in
the center of
the room or
hallway.
Measure the
same distance
from parallel
walls and mark
the ceiling at
the center
point. Hold the
center of the
medallion on
the center
point and make
a light pencil
mark around its
circumference.
-
Apply adhesive to
the back of the medallion by following the
manufacturer's recommendations for the type and
amount to use.
-
Carefully position
the medallion over the alignment marks and push it
into place. Rotate it slightly to spread out the
adhesive under the medallion.
-
Locate two ceiling
joists above the medallion nail the medallion to
the ceiling using finishing nails.
-
Set the
finish nail heads, fill the holes with putty or
cocking compound and paint the medallion.
-
Install the light
fixture.
That is how to install a
ceiling medallion.
