Garage Floor Mats
Introduction:
In new home
construction,
garage floor
coverings are all
the rave. Although
one might think of
epoxy paint as the
most obvious garage
floor covering,
there are many
additional floor
covering options
available for
consideration. When
you are making the
decision about the
look and feel you
want for your
garage, pause to
reflect on the
reasons paint may
not be the best
option for a garage
floor covering.
Listed below are a
variety of garage
floor coverings
available rather
than painting the
floor. Many of them
are easy to install
for the DIY home
owner.
One popular options
is mats in sizes
for both the entire
garage or for
smaller contained
areas. The mats can
be used in specific
areas of the garage
are called garage
compartment mats
since they do only
cover one actual
compartment. The
garage floor mats,
are easy to install
compared to paint.
To cover the entire
floor simply cut
the mats down to
the proper size.
Although
compartment mats
cannot usually be
cut, they come in a
variety of sizes
and can be snapped
together to form a
liquid proof seal
or even stacked
upon each other.
Replacements of
garage floor
coverings are also
a lot simpler than
repainting. With
and epoxy garage
floor coating,
replacement may
include sanding
down to the
concrete when there
are stains or other
damages. Replacing
a mat is as easy as
throwing it in the
trash or recycling.
Manufacturers for
both mats and paint
kits claim they are
stain proof and
cannot be easily
damaged as a means
to justify their
costs.
In comparison to a
bare concrete
garage floor, epoxy
paint is probably a
lot nicer to walk
around on. However,
compared to floor
coverings that are
made of thick
rubber, epoxy
painted floors will
feel like walking
on concrete. The
ideal installation
is to install mats
on top of a painted
floor.
Epoxy painted
finished floors are
less expensive that
installing mats. If
you are feeling up
to the labor
intensive task of
painting your
garage floor every
few years, epoxy
paint is the way to
go. However,
installing mats
will be worth the
extra cost and will
last for decades as
opposed to
repainting every
few years.
