Interior
Window Shutters
Introduction:
There are several
reasons why you should install interior window shutters in your
home. Interior window shutters are pleasing to the eye, and also perform several useful functions
such as security. Any type of interior shutters
can do a lot for your home as long as the design is in balance with
the room.
Heating or cooling cost can be brought down by installing indoor
window shutters. Closing the shutters in the winter will prevent
cold drafts from entering a room. Closing interior shutters during
summer will help prevent the hot
suns
radiant heat from raising the temperature inside your home and lower
air conditioning cost. They also add an element of privacy to your
home. When the louvered slats are adjusted to different angles you
can let in air or sunlight but keep out prying eyes.
Also shutters reduce furniture fading due to sunlight. In addition,
direct sunlight on your television screen is distractive and can
harm your flat screen television set. The sunlight causes the fabric
of your furniture and carpet to fade, as well as the painting or
posters on your walls and the books in your bookcases. Because it's
a slow process, you probably won't notice the fading for several
years or until it is too late.
Interior shutters are made
from many different types of materials, but vinyl shutters are the
best material to use for interior shutters. Wooden window shutters
dry out and can warp, crack or swell, depending on the type of room
in which they're placed, such as bathrooms or solariums with high
humidity. Even the heat rising from a kitchen sink could have an
adverse effect on wooden shutters. Aluminum shutters are just a
little too impersonal for home
decorating.
Vinyl shutters are low-maintenance. You need only dust them off
occasionally and they can be painted any color without difficulty.
Vinyl shutters can be cleaned with plain soap and water.
Mixing and matching curtains and drapes are easy to do with
shutters. It isn’t difficult to select a curtain or drape
combination that will work well with shutters. For example, you can
hang shutters to obscure the bottom of a window so that you have
privacy at eye level, yet when you stand up you'll be able to see
over the shutters into your yard. Or you can use shutters to
completely close off the exterior view.
Installing interior shutters as a DIY home improvement task is easy,
but only do so if you are experienced at DIY projects. You must
measure your windows very carefully to insure that you get the
correct shutter size for your room. There is nothing worse than
paying a non-refundable sum to a store for specially cut shutters
that don’t fit after you get them home. After selecting the shutters
you like, make sure you read the installation directions through
completely before beginning to install them.
Carefully install the shutters in accordance with the manufactures
instructions and then sit back and look at a much improved room with
your new indoor shutters.
