Choosing your
nursery decorations and the nursery design can be a challenge and a
lot of fun too. The first step and probably the most fun, is
choosing the baby bedding. For most new parents the nursery crib
bedding is often the focal point of the nursery. There are themed
and non-themed bedding choices.
Decorating themes for bedding
include such themes as country baby, ocean baby, cowboy baby, or
airplane baby bedding. Non-themed bedding choices include polka
dots, gingham, stripes, plaid, and floral and any combination of
these patterns.
There are also
a wide variety of color choices and harmonies. If you know the
gender of your child your choices will be easier. Some ideal color
choices for girls include yellows, greens, pinks, lavenders, camels
and blues. Suitable colors for boys include blues, greens, reds,
yellows and browns. If you do not know the gender of your baby
before decorating the nursery use a gender neutral baby bedding set.
Searching and
selecting nursery furniture is also a fun task. There are lots of
colors, styles, and finishes available. There are so many choices
that selecting one may seem overwhelming, but you will find that as
you continue to shop you will be drawn to a particular style of bed
and finish of wood. If you have already picked out the baby bedding,
you can narrow your furniture choices down by the bedding that you
have chosen.
Deep, richer and lighter pastel bedding looks great
with cherry, mahogany, and cognac wood finishes. The bright,
medium-toned, and pastel fabrics match quite nicely with the white
and lighter wood finishes. Almost any of the bedding fabrics
described above look great with honey colored finishes which is
considered a neutral finish. When you pick out the crib you like
don’t forget to purchase a mattress too.
Now you know
the bedding and furniture you are going to use it’s time to choose
your nursery wall décor. The paint color choice should compliment
the bedding and furniture that you have selected. In addition to
wall paint consider a wall border. A wall border can highlight the
theme you have chosen for your nursery.
Personalize your nursery with
hanging wooden wall letters, a personalized clock, or personalized
wall art. These things can add an element of uniqueness to the
nursery. Don’t forget the accessories such as rugs, window
treatments, photo frames, and framed art that can help tie in your
bedding, furniture, and color choices to complete a décor theme for
the nursery.
A proper amount
of storage is essential as babies have lots of infant necessities
such as diapers, wash clothes, lotions, and other products. Don’t
forget all those clothes and toys you will receive from your family
and friends. Storage bins, toy chests, and storage shelves can tie
nicely into your theme and keep the baby’s things neat, tidy, and
clean.
