LED Floodlights

LED Floodlights for
Your Home
Introduction:
LED (light emitting
diode) floodlights
are quickly
replacing
incandescent flood
lights simply
because they last
longer and the
price has become
more affordable.
LED flood lights
are widely used on
construction sites,
outdoor sports
events, and indoor
conference rooms.
They are also
widely used for
exterior lighting
of private homes.
The high intensity
of LED floodlights
provides more
illumination at a
greater distance
from the light
fixture to the
target area. LED
floodlight
technology
development has
increased their
popularity. Some of
the benefits of LED
lighting are listed
below.
-
LED floodlights
have a much lower
total cost of
ownership because
they use much less
power. The initial
cost of LED
lighting fixtures
are competitive
with incandescent
fixtures and the
operational costs
are less. For a
given light
intensity
requirement, LED
floodlights can
cost as little as a
tenth the amount of
traditional
lighting to
operate.
-
Traditional
floodlights are
very inefficient.
They convert much
of their supply
power to heat.
These floodlights
must be placed very
carefully in order
to prevent a fire
hazard. They cannot
be located near
shrubbery or other
flammable material.
-
In contrast, LED
lights are very
efficient, and
convert most of
their supply power
to the light and
they generate very
little heat.Traditional flood
lights have an
associated color
spectrum. Sodium
lighting is white
with a yellow cast
while halogen and
fluorescent
lighting emits
white lighting with
a bluish cast.
-
To
change the color of
the lighting, a
lens is required.
The lens filters
out the desired
color making the
light generation
even more
inefficient. LED
floodlights are
manufactured in
many colors. The
original color was
a deep red, which
was soon joined by
yellow, orange,
blue, and green.
The most popular
LED floodlights
used for
residential outdoor
lighting is pure
white with a small
hint of blue.
-
LED floodlights are
relatively shock
resistant as
compared to
incandescent
lights.
These are a few of
the considerations
for the increasing
popularity of LED
exterior lighting
of driveways and
backyards. If you
are considering
replacing your high
energy use
incandescent flood
lights, you should
consider LED
floodlights. They
are much cheaper to
operate and provide
sufficient light
output for home
use.
