How to Sharpen a
Wood Chisel Video
A DIY Woodworkers
Project
Introduction:
Sharpening a wood
chisel is an easy
DIY task for most
woodworkers. Most
wood workers
sharpen their own
wood chisel rather
than take them out
to a professional
tool sharpener.
There are three
ways to sharpen a
wood chisel; it can
be done on a wet
stone (either oil
or water), using
hand files or on a
table sander. I
prefer the table
sander.
To sharpen the wood
chisel on a table
sander insure that
the sander has 220
grit sand paper
installed. Hold the
wood chisels
tapered edge
against the sand
paper until all the
rough edges are
removed. Then use
400 or 600 grit
sand paper to
remove any
remaining burrs.
The wood chisel
will become nearly
razor sharp.
