How to Repair Cracks in Masonry Steps Video
Repairing Cracks in Masonry Steps is an Easy
DIY Task
Introduction:
Masonry steps are susceptible
to cracks in the joints between the step tread and
the risers. This happens because of the constant
expansion and contraction of the masonry products
such as marble, brick or granite. The joints are
cemented with mortar which holds the material
together. When small cracks appear in the joints
water and snow gets in the cracks and freezes. As
the water freezes the cracks expand making the
situation worse.
This problem can be remedied by
filling the joint cracks with a masonry caulking
compound. The caulking compound will seal the
cracks and prevent water from entering them.
Take a look at our video of “how to
repair cracks in masonry steps video” for a
demonstration on how to apply masonry caulking
compound. Once the cracks are filled with masonry
caulking compound, the water cannot enter the
cracks which will prevent your steps from futher damage
from the freezing water.
