Most homes have one or more pull chain light fixtures. Pull change light fixtures are commonly used in attics, garages, and basements. Unfortunately they fail more often than other light fixtures and need replacing.

There are two types of pull chain light fixtures, plastic and ceramic. The plastic is the most common pull chain light fixture used because it is inexpensive. These light fixtures can be purchased at any DIY home improvement center such as The Home Depot or Lowe’s. The plastic fixture cost approximately $5.00 while the ceramic fixture cost nearly three times as much.

There is no need to hire an electrician to change a pull chain light fixture. It is a very easy homeowner DIY task that can be completed in fifteen minutes or less. Before removing the old fixture, insure that the power to the circuit is off by opening the circuit breaker at the main electrical panel.
