A wood planer is a common tool in most wood working shops. A wood planer is absolutely necessary if you are going to make furniture items. The wider the planer the more efficient it is. I prefer the 13 inch planer for working with wood to be used for furniture projects. It can handle wood widths up to 13 inches wide and a depth of 6 ½ to 1/8 inches.
