How to Removing
Melted Candle Wax
From Fabric
Introduction:
Candles can add a
sense of calm and
beauty to your
home. But when
something goes
wrong and the wax
ends up on your
carpet or
furniture, some of
that peacefulness
you felt moments
ago may be gone. To
help you enjoy
candles in your
home and avoid the
unpleasantness of
melted wax on your
fabrics, there is a
simple way to
remove it.
If you've hosted a
dinner party or
simply had candles
lit to relax, you
may have noticed
that some of the
melted wax landed
on your tablecloth
or other fabric
near the candle.
This isn't a cause
for alarm; melted
candle wax can
easily be removed
from the majority
of fabrics in your
home. Here are some
steps you can take
that don't involve
throwing away your
favorite
tablecloth.
·
The first thing
that you will need
to do is place the
fabric containing
the melted wax face
up on a hard
surface. Then try
to remove as much
of the wax as
possible by gently
scraping at the
melted candle wax
using a butter
knife. During this
step, you do not
want to pull at the
fabric, this can
cause irreparable
damage.
·
Next, heat an iron
to the warm
setting. While your
iron is heating,
cover the wax with
a paper towel or
scrap piece of
fabric. Then place
the wax covered
fabric onto the
paper towel with
the stain facing
down. Now place
another piece of
paper towel on the
back side of the
fabric. Gently
place the warm iron
over the paper
towel. The heat
from the iron will
soften the wax and
transfer it onto
the paper towels.
·
After you have
removed as much of
the wax as possible
using the iron,
apply laundry
detergent directly
onto the stain.
Next, wash the item
in the washer at
the highest
temperature allowed
for the particular
type of fabric.
This should remove
any leftover
residue that you
were unable to
remove using the
iron.
·
If
you notice that
there are still
traces of the wax
on the fabric, you
can mix a solution
of two parts water
and one part
rubbing alcohol.
Then apply this
mixture to the wax
remaining on the
fabric. Let the
solution sit for
approximately ten
minutes and then
rinse with cool
water.
