Cleaning Your Gutters
Gutter Maintenance
Introduction:
It's that time of the year
again when you have to contemplate cleaning up the
yard and outside of your home to get ready for the
rainy season and eventually the thrill of winter.
Performing DIY outside preventive maintenance tasks
is not just about giving the house a new paint job
or new set of window and screens. All these routine
home improvement projects and ideas are great.
Every homeowner loves to have their home seem like
it’s brand new as much as possible. It's your home
and it's not a crime to make it beautiful.
Your home improvement preventive maintenance task
can improve the interior and exterior aspects of
your home but also maintain its overall condition
in preventing any house damage before it becomes an
expensive project to repair. This includes gutter
cleaning.
The gutters attached to the edge of the roof are a
prime example where the lack of preventive
maintenance can lead to costly repairs. Cleaning
them should be at the top of your list for the late
summer or fall projects. If you haven’t looked at
the gutters lately is time to do it before the
heavy rain and snow comes.
Cleaning gutters, cleaning guttering systems and
gutter guards is not fun. It's not exactly an
exciting task but it’s something that you need to
do and something you need to pay a great deal of
attention to.
Most homeowners forget about their gutters until
it's the rainy season. When they begin to see water
leaks from their home that's the time they feel
they need a thorough check out. Gutters can only do
its job of directing water away from the house if
they are clog-free. If they are not properly
cleaned twigs, leaves, seeds and dirt can block the
gutter's duct work which prevents them from
draining. This will become a perfect haven for
disease-carrying insects that can pose a serious
threat to you and your family's health.
Eventually the obstructions will lead to gutter
overflow that can cause grave and irreparable
damages to your home. If the water is not channeled
away correctly, it can get to the foundation of the
house and can cause water accumulation in the
basement and even wood rot.
Structural damages associated with clogged gutters
can be avoided if your gutters are accurately
installed and properly maintained. A guttering
system with gutter guards will prevent any debris
from going into the gutters and help to eliminate
these unwanted hassles. Cleaning gutters will also
help avoid costly damage repairs.
