Renovate Your Home This Spring
Home Remodeling and Home Renovations
Introduction:
If your home is taking a
battering this winter you should consider
remodeling in the spring. If your home looks a
little tired, needs repairs as well as a general
facelift it is time to get to work. Spring is the
best time to do home improvement remodeling so your
home will have a fresh look this summer. If your
home needs exterior or interior renovations or if
you want to expand your home with additional living
space, it is time to do some serious planning.
Exterior renovations:
Snow, frost, heavy rain and gale force winds can
all cause a lot of house damage that goes unnoticed
at the time of occurrence. Even if you think your
home survived the winter in good shape it's a good
idea to inspect the outside of it when the winter
weather starts to abate. Check that the walls are
sound with no suspicious cracks or crumbling
mortar. Insure gutters and drainpipes are firmly
attached. Check the roof for loose shingles and
flashing that's showing signs of wear. If you can't
see the whole roof from the ground, look in the
loft for damp areas that will show if water has
been seeping in. Get ready to make repairs this
spring.
Late spring is also the best time for outdoor
painting projects and repairing windows and door
frames that are deteriorating. Make repairs or
replace them before the hot summer months arrive.
Interior renovations:
The size of families and lifestyles are constantly
changing that require you to adapt your home to
suit new needs. Instead of tolerating an
inconvenient home layout or rooms that no longer
suit their purpose, consider remodeling them.
Consider removing partition walls to turn a cramped
kitchen or family room into a much more useful
space. If you have become an “empty nester”
consider converting a bed room to a home office or
a hobby room.
Expanding your living space:
If you need additional living space because part of
the family has returned home look at your options
for extending your home. Add additions where they
will cost less such as finishing an attic, garage
or basement. Home additions should blend with the
existing building structure. These home
improvements take time and can be expensive so they
should be well thought out and planned.
Whether your home just needs a few exterior or
interior repairs or a home makeover you can either
do it yourself as a homeowner DIY home improvement
project or hire a professional builder to do the
job. Spring is the best time of the year to get
started. When it’s done you will have the summer to
enjoy it.
